Gray rot (Botrytis cinerea)

Disease Symptoms:
- The characteristic symptom appears on fruits as wet spots of varying shapes and sizes, often with a concentric zoned pattern.
- Under high atmospheric humidity (in greenhouses) or during rainfall (in open fields), the affected surface develops an abundant gray fluff, representing the fungal fruiting bodies.
- Frequently, this fungus can also attack flowers, causing a characteristic gray fluff to appear, followed shortly by flower drop.
Favorable Factors for Disease Development:
- Temperatures between 15-20°C, atmospheric humidity above 95%, and precipitation are active factors triggering gray mold.
- The fungus spreads in crops via air currents, rain, or sprinkler irrigation.
Prevention and Control Measures:
-
Cultural Hygiene:
- Regular removal of infected leaves and fruits.
- Timely defoliation of plants to ensure proper air circulation.
- Adequate greenhouse ventilation to prevent condensation on foliage, which favors gray mold development.
